Parent Workshop: Talking to your child with ASD about Sexual Health

We have a parent workshop coming up on November 1st, 2017 at 6:30pm at the school.

Alberta Health Services, Sexual & Reproductive Health is offering a parent information session addressing sexual health education in the context of differing abilities. This session is presented by Heather Cobb, the sexual health educator for our junior high and high school classes at New Heights.

Here are the benefits of sexual health education that focuses on the needs and developmental stages of youth with differing abilities:

  • Youth are less vulnerable to abuse and sexual exploitation.
  • Youth have healthier friendships and relationships.
  • Youth have a better understanding of how their bodies work and can become more independent with hygiene and self-care.
  • Youth have a better understanding of healthy boundaries.
  • Youth have a better understanding of healthy and unhealthy relationships in the context of dating.

If you are interested in joining us for this parent workshop, please RSVP to [email protected] by Wednesday, October 25th, 2017.
