Teacher (1.0)
New Heights School and Learning Services is a not-for-profit School, ECS, and Specialized Service provider for families with children and youth aged 2 ½ – 20 years with a diagnosis on the Autism Spectrum, or with similar learning challenges. We are a play-based program that utilizes the strengths and interests of each student to address social-emotional and academic goals. Classrooms at New Heights School are multi-grade, with a maximum of 11 students with a consistent Teacher and Educational Assistant teaching team.
New Heights currently requires one Teacher (1.0) for a High School multi-grade classroom (Grades 10-12).
As part of a multidisciplinary team, the Teacher will:
- Support the students by teaching, using and modeling strategies
- Collaborate to determine approaches that are most effective for the students
- Adapt and modify curriculum objectives to meet each student where they are at
- Develop and implement engaging learning activities to address specified emotional and academic goals
- Monitor, assess and document students’ progress
Qualifications:
- An active Alberta Teaching Certificate
- Experience working with youth with autism spectrum disorder or similar social and learning challenges
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to be self-directed, flexible, highly motivated and to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- A valid Driver’s License and the use of a vehicle to transport students
