Employment Coach (Part Time/Flexible- Afternoons, Evenings and Weekends)

New Heights School and Learning Services is a not-for-profit School, Preschool, and Specialized Service provider for families with children, youth, and young adults with a diagnosis on the Autism Spectrum, or with similar learning challenges. We are a play- based program that utilizes the strengths and interests of each student to address social-emotional and academic goals.

Mission: Preparing our kids for the community, and the community for our kids.

New Heights School currently requires one part time/flexible Employment Coach to join our team.

The Employment Coach’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the team in implementing effective extra-curricular Employment Programming for high school students who are attending New Heights School
  • Collaborate with the team in planning and devise/adapt materials and procedures for tools and strategies that are appropriate to the workplace, each student’s strengths and needs and developmental level, and their family
  • Liaise with employers and supervisors in the work placements to ensure strong communication between the student and work placements.
  • Collaborate with the students and the team to identify employment goals and a transition plan for each student identified
  • Model and teach interpersonal skills necessary for the community and workplace.
  • Maintain required documentation and case notes

  • The ability to be self-directed, flexible, highly motivated and to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Highly adaptable: embraces change and is able to modify strategies to personalize service for the individual in a patient and empathetic manner
  • Ability to quickly build rapport with others in a one-on-one and group setting
  • Ability to solve problems in an innovative and unconventional way
  • A passion for community inclusion

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with youth/young adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or similar social and communication challenges
  • A valid class 5 Driver’s License and the use of a vehicle
  • Availability on afternoons, evenings and weekends
