Our
School-Age Program
The
New Heights school program places strong emphasis on academic independence,
social behaviour/communication and self regulation. Our objective
is to help students develop skills and tools that contribute to a
lifetime of success.

New
Heights School is designed for students aged 6 to 20 with Autism,
Asperger's syndrome, and other related learning differences who will
benefit from a program that:
• honours each student's learning preferences and strength
• is carefully structured and predictable
• uses visual organization and support
• is highly individualized
• has a low student to teacher ratio
Programming
and Curriculum
All
of our school aged students’ programs are based on their
Individual Program Plans (I.P.P.’s), and follow Alberta
Learning’s Program of Studies with accommodations and
modifications as required. Curriculum material is differentiated
for each student through his/her IPP.
Each
student's program is fully individualized, and addresses each
child's needs by engaging his/her unique preferences, abilities
and interests.

Our
objective is to help students develop skills and tools that contribute
to a lifetime of success. We offer a program focused on helping each
student achieve academic success and develop independent work habits.
As well, we focus on the enhancement of social skills and the building
of confidence and self esteem through providing students with the
understandings and strategies they require to perform optimally.
At New Heights we provide a structured
environment, visual organization and supports. We directly teach social,
organizational and learning skills and strategies with an emphasis
on comprehension, memory retention, communication skills, and team
(social) skills.
Students attend a regular school day, five days a week. As of September
2011, the school day runs from 8:20 a.m. until 3:20 p.m. Monday through
Thursday, and from 8:20 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Friday.
“New Heights is a unique school in many ways but most importantly,
it fills an important niche that has not been met by any other school
or service that we are aware of. The balance in social skills and
academics is a perfect union to allow our children to develop into
meaningful contributors of society.”
